What goes into an influencer’s fee in India

Part of the guideInfluencer marketing in India: the complete guide for brands (2026)

Ask five creators with 1 lakh followers for a quote and you can get five very different numbers. That is not always creators being difficult. A creator’s fee is made of several parts, and most quotes bundle them together without saying so.

Here is what goes into the price, so you can compare quotes properly and know where there is room to negotiate.

1. Real reach, not follower count

What you are mostly paying for is attention: how many people actually see the post. A creator with 80,000 followers who gets 60,000 views per Reel may be better value than one with 3 lakh followers who gets 15,000.

Always ask for the typical views on the last 10 to 15 posts of the format you are buying. Ask for screenshots from the creator’s own insights, not just a number in an email.

2. The format

Different formats take different amounts of work and get different attention.

  • Stories are quick to make and disappear in 24 hours. Usually the cheapest.
  • Reels and Shorts need an idea, a shoot and an edit. They keep getting views for weeks.
  • YouTube integrations (a segment inside a long video) and dedicated videos take the most work and usually reach the most engaged viewers.

3. Usage rights

This is the part most brands forget to ask about, and the part that causes the most arguments later. A basic fee usually covers the creator posting on their own profile. If you also want to:

  • repost the content on your brand page,
  • run it as an ad (from your handle or as a partnership ad from theirs), or
  • use it on your website or marketplace listings,

then that is extra, and it should be priced by where you use it and for how long. Three months of ad usage costs less than twelve.

4. Exclusivity

If you ask a creator not to work with competitors for a period, you are asking them to turn down other income. Expect to pay for that. Keep exclusivity short and narrow: “no other sunscreen brands for 60 days” is fair, “no beauty brands for a year” is not.

5. Production and extras

Location shoots, extra people on camera, professional lighting, regional language versions and fast turnarounds all add cost. So do extra rounds of changes beyond what was agreed.

6. Demand and timing

Festive season, big sale days and launches cluster together. Popular creators get booked up and charge more. Planning four to six weeks ahead helps.

How to compare quotes fairly

Put every quote into the same simple table:

Creator Format Typical views Fee Usage rights Cost per 1,000 views
Creator A 1 Reel 60,000 Fee A 3 months ads Fee A / 60
Creator B 1 Reel 15,000 Fee B Organic only Fee B / 15

Cost per 1,000 views is not everything: trust, fit and content quality matter a lot. But it stops you from paying for followers instead of attention.
